INTRO

For her final project, the artist chose to make a book design, and it is called “Converse Story: A Centennial Anniversary”. The idea came up one morning when the artist was getting ready to go to campus. She put on her Converse shoes and suddenly one simple question came up on her mind. “Why does everybody wear these shoes? What makes these shoes so special?” ( Okay, that’s actually two questions. ) So then she checked on the internet and here is the fact she got. “Converse is not just a shoe. It’s a legend, a heroes, and an innovator”. And the good thing is, in this 2008, Converse celebrates its 100th anniversary! So that’s why the artist was so excited about making this book.

ABOUT THE BOOK

The artist decided to split this book into 2 parts and this book has a double-sided cover. The first part is “PAST”, and the second part is “PRESENT”. The past section tells about the Converse shoes’ history, about how it all started, from a sport shoes until it became a fashion statement; while the present tells more about the celebration of Converse 100th anniversary itself. These two parts are not connected in content, so the reader doesn’t need to read the book in order to get the whole story. Either of these two sections can be read first.

VISUAL CONCEPT

The visual concept is referred to the brand personality of Converse itself. For the past section, the artist tried to bring the old mood, so she put a vintage style on it. It filled with black and white photos, recycled paper textures, old frames, geometric element and ornaments, and so on. And the color tone is warm. But the present section is a bit rough and dirty. It has a grunge style on it. It filled with ink splat, borders with rough edges, torn paper, and the color tone is cold.
